We are releasing a very limited number of magnums of 2019 Māori Point Grand Reserve - Professors' Block Pinot Noir. This wine is the fourth Māori Point Reserve Pinot Noir to be labeled as "Professors' Block." We made only 36 magnum bottles of the 2019 vintage, each filled and labeled by hand. Each magnum bottle comes with a Māori Point wood box to protect the wine (unfortunately, we cannot send the wooden box out of NZ, sorry).

Our Reserve Pinot Noir is hand harvested from our favorite section of Māori Point Vineyard. We have been carefully observing this special area and tasting the wines made specifically from it since 2013, and we now call this area our "Professors' Block". This one-acre block of vines was planted in 2002 with the Pinot Noir types Abel and 10/5, and it consistently creates our most elegant, layered, and long-lived Pinot Noir.

GROWING SEASON
The 2019 growing season was one of two halves: a tumultuous spring brought very hot days but also extreme frosts and even deep snow on the vines in November. To our relief, the weather settled into a gentle, moist December and a hot dry summer lasting right through until the end of March. The crop was smaller than usual because of rain during flowering.

TASTING NOTES
The worries of a difficult spring dissipated in the calm late summer of 2019, ultimately yielding elegant and balanced Pinot Noir with fullness of flavour and soft silkiness on the palate. Generous with ripe cherry, blackberry, raspberry, interwoven with cinnamon, chocolate, sous bois, and dark herb notes. Supple tannins provide an ethereal, silky mouthfeel, and the elegant acidity provides lightness and structural definition to the palate. Lifted yet still deeply layered, with a long finish that indicates this wine will age well for at least 15 years (magnum).

Made by wild yeasts, unfined, unfiltered, vegan friendly, minimal sulfites. 13.9% alc. by volume.
